In Summary

The by-election was triggered by the passing of former MP Mohamed Tubi Bidu, who died on November 12, 2025, while undergoing medical treatment in Nairobi.

Tubi Mohammed Tubi has emerged as the new Member of Parliament for Isiolo South after a commanding win in the by-election, overshadowing his sister Bina Tubi of Jubilee in a contest that grabbed attention across the constituency and nationwide.

The official results show Tubi Mohammed collected 7,352 votes, leaving Bina Tubi with only 634, while Isack Fayo of NEDP received 44 votes. The race was closely watched due to the unusual family rivalry and the political influence of the late MP whose seat was being contested.

Isiolo South has 22,181 registered voters. The by-election was triggered by the passing of former MP Mohamed Tubi Bidu, who died on November 12, 2025, while undergoing medical treatment in Nairobi. He had been elected on a Jubilee ticket in the 2022 General Election and was considered a major political figure in the area.

The siblings went head-to-head in a rare and high-profile political battle. Tubi Mohammed ran under UDA, while Bina sought to retain the seat for Jubilee.

Both candidates leveraged their family name and influence but neither yielded ground, making the campaign particularly intense and widely followed in the weeks leading up to voting day.

During the campaign, Tubi Mohammed showed confidence in his chances, praising the IEBC for its preparations and urging residents to participate actively in the democratic process. He emphasised that voting was critical for shaping the constituency’s future and ensuring proper representation.

The February 26 by-elections were held across other parts of the country to fill vacant county assembly seats. In Kakamega County, voters in West Kabras Ward, Malava Constituency, elected a new Member of County Assembly. Meanwhile, in Embu County, two ward by-elections were held in Muminji Ward and Evurore Ward of Mbeere North Constituency.

Overall, the mini-polls covered one parliamentary seat in Isiolo South and three county assembly wards in Kakamega and Embu, reflecting the ongoing process to fill political vacancies across the country.
